Ann Coulter Offends Muslim Group
Everyone’s favourite conservative blondie, Ann Coulter, has caused quite a stir with a Muslim community in Canada. Shock! Surprise! Anyway, the jist of the story is:
Ann Coulter was speaking at the University of Ottawa, and began talking about the subject of Muslims and airplanes. She made the remark that Muslims should not be able to fly on planes, and instead should take “flying carpets”. When one Muslim student stood up and asked what she should do since she didn’t own a flying carpet, Coulter responded with, “Take a camel”.
Predictably, this caused quite a riot that eventually led to Coulter’s next speaking appearance having to be canceled because of the elevated risk of danger. In an attempt to backtrack, Coulter defended her comments as ‘satire’ and said they were just a joke. Many students have not accepted this explanation.
What do you think, readers? Did Coulter overstep her bounds by offending the Muslim community with seemingly derogatory stereotypes? Or was she genuinly joking and the crowd, with possible preconceived notions, assumed she was being her regular angry-conservative self?
